Waiting on Wednesday – Week 146

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It’s to spotlight upcoming reads that I’m DYING to get my hands on!

This week’s WoW is:
The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell

Feodora and her mother live in the snowbound woods of Russia, in a house full of food and fireplaces. Ten minutes away, in a ruined chapel, lives a pack of wolves. Feodora's mother is a wolf wilder, and Feo is a wolf wilder in training. A wolf wilder is the opposite of an animal tamer: it is a person who teaches tamed animals to fend for themselves, and to fight and to run, and to be wary of humans.

When the murderous hostility of the Russian Army threatens her very existence, Feo is left with no option but to go on the run. What follows is a story of revolution and adventure, about standing up for the things you love and fighting back. And, of course, wolves.

I don’t think I’ve ever posted a middle grade novel as one of my WoW picks! Anyway, this one looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous. I’ve heard a lot of amazing things about Rooftoppers, which unfortunately I haven’t read yet despite the book sitting on my shelf. I definitely need to pick this one up when it comes out. Fairy tale-esque stories set in Russia are often beautifully told (Blood Red, Snow White by Marcus Sedgewick, anyone?), so I can’t wait to read this one!

What are you waiting on?

  1. I hadn't heard of this one yet. Between this and Silver in the Blood, I'm wondering if wolves are making a come back!

  7. I've not heard of this one! The setting is quite unique - at least for me, I haven't come across too many novels sets in Russia. I hope you enjoy this book when you read it!
