TV Shows this Fall

Just wanted to talk about the AWESOME TV shows coming up...some new and some old :) It's actually kinda sad, I only recently (like April? May?) started watching TV. Stuff that everyone keeps on talking about: Gossip Girl, Modern Family etc. But I can't wait to start watching some of these!

OLD COMING BACK:

Pretty Little Liars
Continuation of Season 2

OMG! I'm totally in love with this series. I know, they're taking a season break (or whatever they call it) but I seriously am hyped up for the halloween special! The promo looks AWESOME! Check that out here.

to those who watched the last episode before the break: did that blog your mind or what? I know I was completely freaked out at the end. I NEED to know what happens. The TV show is so unpredictable -_-.

Gossip Girl

Season 5

Hmm...this one's gonna take a while to get to. I'm only halfway through Season 2! Because of the multiple TV shows I watch, it's been taking a while for me to go through all episodes. Loving it though :D

Modern Family
Season 3

Okay, at least with this one, I'm not so behind. I'm nearly finished Season 2, which is much more progress than Gossip Girl. FUNNIEST. SHOW. EVER! Love Phil, Gloria and Cam: funniest characters on the show. My younger sister has watched the released episodes for Season 3 and keeps teasing me by spoiling little bits of the episodes.
So not fair!

Those are the older TV shows which I need to start watching again or can't wait for!
Now here's the NEW TV SHOWS I wanna watch:

The Secret Circle

I'm not a really big fan of The Vampire Diaries (I actually started watching, but then I couldn't get any further...should I continue watching or drop it?) but this one looks amazing. Just came out and I have the first episode to watch, so this should be interesting :).

New Girl

This one looks really cute (plus my friend said it was kinda funny) but it's gotten tons of hype, and I've been seeing the poster for this one, like, EVERYWHERE online. Should check it out!

Hart of Dixie

This TV show looks like a really cute, comical and dramatic southern show...plus, the poster's really gorgeous. Have the first episode. Need to watch and see!

Up All Night

I've seen the first episode (it's actually pretty short!) and it's quite funny, really cute and the baby is adorable. Liking it so far ;D

Last Man Standing

I've never really seen anything with Tim Allen in it (at least I think...) except for Toy Story, but this one looks seriously HILARIOUS. Can't wait!

Once Upon a Time

The poster looks amazing, and the trailer looks like it's made to be a movie...but I'm having mixed feelings about this one. It seems a little (what's the word?) cheesy, I guess? I dunno. Still going to give it a try, and I'll see how it goes from there.

Work It

Okay, NEED this one. HI. LA RI. OUS. Watched the promo, SO FUNNY! seriously couldn't stop giggling after. Original and totally caught my attention. WANT!

Apartment 23

Okay, this one features the friend from Confessions of a Shopaholic, whom I didn't really like, but this TV show seems okay. Also got a lot of hype, but I'm gonna have to see how it goes.

Subergatory

No idea how this one is, sounds funny though, so gonna give it a try. Apparently it's somewhat a mix of Juno and something else, so it should be pretty interesting.

I Hate My Teenage Daughter

Okay, this is pretty sad, since I'm a teen and stuff, but I REALLY wanna see this. This trailer's SO FUNNY and sounds like it's really gonna be quite the comedy series.

And that is all the TV shows I'm looking forward to watching this season! Let me know some other good shows...totally wanna check them out!

What are you waiting on?

Calli by Jessica Lee Anderson

Calli by Jessica Lee Anderson

Release Date: September 13th, 2011
Publisher: Milkweed Editions
Rating: YA 13+
Format: eGalley
Source: NetGalley
AmazonGoodreadsWebsite

Fifteen-year-old Calli has just about everything she could want in life—two loving moms, a good-looking boyfriend, and a best friend who has always been there for support. An only child, Calli is excited when her parents announce that they want to be foster parents. Unfortunately, being a foster sister to Cherish is not at all what Calli expected. First Cherish steals Calli’s boyfriend, then begins to pit Calli’s moms against one another, and she even steals Calli’s iPod. Tired of being pushed around and determined to get even, Calli steals one of Cherish’s necklaces. But this plan for revenge goes horribly awry, and Cherish ends up in juvenile detention.
Isolating herself from her moms, her boyfriend, and even her best friend, Calli wrestles with her guilt and tries to figure out a way to undo the damage she’s caused. When her moms are asked to take on another foster child, Calli sees an opportunity to make amends for her past mistakes.
Funny, moving, and emotionally rich, Calli is a portrait of an endearing young woman caught between adolescence and adulthood, striving to do the right thing even when all of her options seem wrong.

**This Review is based on an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy). The final cover and text are subject to change.**

Calli was a short YA contemporary novel, which is refreshing after reading all those paranormal books! It's an amazing coming of age novel, and the emotions and problems faced in this book are all very realistically written.

I could totally relate to Calli's feelings, Anderson has written a very REAL character. There was flaws, and the she wasn't perfect...which did make her the perfect main character. LOVE LOVE LOVE Dub. He's so incredibly sweet and the most amazing boyfriend!
The only problem I found with the characters was the fact that since it's a pretty short book, you don't really get to explore and learn more about the supporting characters, like what they look like, and stuff like that. But it's an amazing supporting cast of supporting characters: Delia, Calli's two moms and the foster child which Calli's family takes in (who is SO adorable!).

I really love how that the author does put in the message out to everyone: having two gay parents does NOT make you gay. Love how she tackles this, and we see how everyone treats Calli because of this (and Dub being so helpful and sweet about it). Another thing we see with Calli is her somewhat, struggle to lose weight. In some parts, she thinks too much about it, but honestly in the end, it's all the same: love you for the way you are. And of course, that someone should love you for who you are as well, not who you should be.

I found Calli to be a sweet YA about foster care trouble, bullying, boys and just finding yourself. Loved this one, and totally recommend to both Middle Grade and Young Adult readers, as even though Calli is fifteen, it looks at issues suitable and applicable to readers from 11 or 12 years onwards. Cute, fresh and moving, Calli is totally the YA you should pick up to read when you're lost, troubled or need a happy ending. Loved it!

Fairest of them All (1)

Fairest of them All is a meme hosted by Elleria at Chimneys and Magic. It's to compare different covers for the same book and discuss which is more amazing!

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

I bought this one in India and still haven't read this one. The cover I own however is the one on the left below this...text.

The ones above are all English. Here come the different languages!
[German, French, Spanish]
[Catalan, Italian, Croatian]

That's A LOT of covers for one book! :P
and a very hard decision...

Like for the original cover, I really like the black (French) version, because it really contrasts and works well. But overall, I really like German cover. The writing is really effective, and even though it's a lot like the Croatian one, I think I found that model in the German one more..."fitting in" than the Croatian one.

That's it for now...really glad I found this meme. Which cover do you like?

Me = Bored

...This is how I feel right now.

I'm typing this uselessly...for a point.
On the other hand, I'm going to the Borders 70% off sale tomorrow!
Which is why, I want y'all to recommend me some amazing books to buy.

Enjoy. Read. Live Better.

Guest Post by Two Brothers Metz + GIVEAWAY

Gypsy Knights
by Two Brothers Metz
Genre Paranormal YA
Fourteen-year-old Durriken Brishen has lost his parents, his grandfather, and though he doesn't know it, his Gypsy culture's dangerous gift.
Taken in and raised on the rails by the first woman to pilot a freight train, Durriken has one remaining connection to his Romani roots: a small wooden box that hangs from the hammer loop of his overalls.
The last gift he received from his grandfather, the box contains the world's first chess set. But a piece is missing: the Red Queen. According to Durriken’s family lore, the complete set awakens the power of Tărie, a mercurial gift that confers unique abilities on each new Master.
When a suspicious fire erupts in the Chicago rail yard, Durriken's escape produces an uneasy alliance, though not without its silver lining. Dilia is a few inches taller, several degrees cleverer, and oh yes – very pretty. While Durriken is uneasy allying with a girl whose parents were convicted of sedition, there's no doubt she is a powerful partner. And while it's not immediately clear to either, her own Guatemalan culture and family history are deeply entwined with the ancient Romani mystery.
Jumping box cars, escaping riverboats, deciphering clues, crossing swords with the brilliant madman Radu Pinch – with great American cities as its backdrop – Gypsy Knights is the page-turning saga of Durriken Brishen and his quest to rediscover his past.
In honor of iLuvReadingTooMuch’s love of top ten lists, we thought we’d go old school and bring back some of the all time classic YA books.  There’s been an explosion of interest in YA in the last few years – which is fantastic! – and we wanted to salute some of the masters of the form who were doing it long before it was the thing to do.  So without further ado, here are Rhett and Lafe’s:
Top 10 (Okay 12) (Mostly) Old School YA Books Nobody Talks About (Enough (Anymore))

12. I Am the Cheese, by Robert Cormier – Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not after you.
11. Hole in my Life, by Jack Gantos – The best YA autobiography around.
10. Dogsbody, by Diana Wynne Jones – Complex, bittersweet, and unique.
9. The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin – A brilliant mystery.
8. The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton – Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darrel, Johnny, and Dallas.  Tuff.
7. The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier – Do I dare disturb the universe?  You better.
6. The Dark is Rising, by Susan Cooper – We dare you to read it alone at night.
5. A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeline L’Engle – It was a dark and stormy night.  Seriously, that’s the first line.  Flawlessly conceived and executed high fantasy.
4. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding – Life in the state of war of every man against every man: solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.
3. Watership Down, by Richard Adams – Hazel-rah!
2. The House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer – For our money, Nancy Farmer is the best YA author writing today.  Why she doesn’t have more street cred is a mystery to us.
1. Go Ask Alice, by Anonymous – Blows your mind when you’re in 7th grade.  If you haven’t read it, go get it.
Thank you so much to the Two Brothers Metz for the amazing guest post...I really do love top ten lists,  especially book related ones! And I've read some of the ones featured. LOVE LOVE LOVE The Outsiders (one of the best books ever!), Lord of the Flies was violent– I read the book AND was in the play (I played Piggy XD), and Watership Down which is really an amazing story about rabbits...except more bloody and violent than the cute fuzzy ones.

Jumping box cars, escaping riverboats, deciphering clues, crossing swords with the brilliant madman Radu Pinch – with great American cities as its backdrop – Gypsy Knights is the page-turning saga of Durriken Brishen and his quest to rediscover his past.

Gypsy Knights was an adventurous and fast-paced tale of Durriken and Dilia. It's really interesting to see how the story and characters progress, Gypsies and loads and loads of Chess.
The beginning was a little slow, I couldn't really get into it too much, but then once you move past it, WOW, it's like a freight train going at full speed! Loved it :)

I really love how Duri and Dilia progress throughout the novel. Both were fantastic characters (although I found Dilia a little bit annoying in the beginning) and their romance was really great– just at the right pace. But I REALLY loved Casey, the woman who took Duri in. She's just so funny and strong.

The story takes place in the 1960's, so it's really cool to see some American history and amazing settings for the stops that they make along the way. I got somewhat confused however. The story switches between 1960 and 1965 a lot, so I got slightly confused as to what was going on. But then half way through the book, it went smoothly on from then.
The chess references were also a bit of a problem for me. I'm not a chess player, even though I play sometimes, I don't know the moves and pieces and strategies etc. Just found that the tiniest bit hard to catch on.

Overall, I found Gypsy Knights an amazing debut. Slow at first (and slightly confusing), but later on turns out to be a wild ride with mystery and a whole ton of action. Chess and American history fans: you'll love this! Two Brothers Metz have written an unforgettable adventure. Can't wait to read more from this series!

**Thank you to Two Brothers Metz for sending the book for review and Roxanne of Bewitching Blog Tours for making me apart of it :)**

Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire... fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil... until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.
Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don't exist), and they're shocked she survived. They're even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quickly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of New England has chosen Pearl's family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King's feast -- as the entrees.
The only problem? Pearl's starting to feel the twinges of a conscience. How can she serve up her new friends—especially the cute guy who makes her fangs ache—to be slaughtered? Then again, she's definitely dead if she lets down her family. What's a sunlight-loving vamp to do?

**This Review is based on an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy). The final cover and text is subject to change.**

Okay, first things first: LOVE the play on the title! Incase you didn't get it at first (like me :P) it's a play on Eat, Pray, Love...except, Vampirised!
and two: this has got to be the most original and hilarious vampire story of all.
First thing you definitely notice in the blurb, the mention of the unicorn. How awesome is that?? Not only is it a mythological creature which has never really been introduced into YA paranormal (not that I know of anyway), but alongside a vampire?? double awesomeness. Totally contrasts: blood and happiness. Dark and Light. You get the picture.

Pearl our vampy-turned-not-so-vampy main character. Okay, total badass. Not only is she a vampire, but GASP, in the world of literary vampires who (a) don't drink blood and (b) are actually nice to humans, she is a complete meanie. I mean it. Seriously evil. Wouldn't think twice about drinking your blood and kicking your butt.
Then we cue the cutie of the story. EVAN. Totally in love with him. When have I ever come away from a book (now that I think about it) without falling in love with a boy character?? Jeez, anyway, so sweet, amazing and you'll definitely fall in love with him. Not going to give anything more away. Then there's the chipper "sidekick" aka Pearl's personal guide to high school Bethany. Adorable! Totally the sunshiney-never-get-you-down type. Love her optimism during the whole book and I think she's amazing how she's just always there for Pearl...despite certain situations.

All the minor characters in this story were really cool. Like all the relatives of Pearl's were very interesting to read about. Just got a little confused with who was who in some bits, but nothing too major. Really like how some of them are just bat-crazy, gone mad with age :D.
I also loved the geeky "vampire-hunter-wannabees" Zeke and Matt. They made me laugh like crazy! I swear, they're priceless. Made me think of some geek pairings in tv shows and movies, like State of Georgia's (which is now unfortunately cancelled!) Seth and Leo.

Sarah Beth Durst has taken an interesting turn on vampires with this novel, which everyone will be glad of. It's a great break for vamp-lovin' readers who are tired of vampire boarding schools, vampire love triangles, or those who are completely human friendly. Funny, fresh and freakin' AWESOME, this book will totally blow your mind. You will not stop reading it from start to finish. That's a promise. I don't know if there's going to be a sequel, because it was fine where it ended, yet there was room for more storyline and continuation. Anyway, can't wait to read more of Durst's books. If they're anything like this, I will LOVE it.
