Cover Love - Week 2

I've decided to adapt this amazing weekly meme (is it still running?) by the ever amazing 21 Pages. I loved your idea so much, that I decided to continue it... on my own blog! and this week's Cover Love theme is: Books with Barbie/Dolls on the cover!

and here's the first one! When I thought about the theme, this one came to me first. Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard.

I've heard so much about this book, Getting Revenge on Lauren Wood by Eileen Cook...never got the chance to read it though! Someday...and woah! look at the cover! Somebody's got a grudge against Barbie...

This is the UK Cover for Pretties by Scott Westerfeld...yeah, I wanted the other one, but unfortunately, this was the only cover available...it was kinda awkward asking to borrow this!

and this one features the male barbie version...Ken! well, a look a like at least on the cover of Fake Boyfriend by Kate Brian. I just came across this when I was looking through Kate Brian's books.

This cover's a little creepy. I remember seeing this on sale at Indigo! bookstores. Zombie Blondes by Brian James.

and last, but not least, Reality Check by Jen Calonita...this one features FOUR barbie doll things!

Pretties by Scott Westerfeld

Gorgeous. Popular. Perfect. Perfectly wrong. 

Tally has finally become pretty. Now her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are awesome, her boyfriend is totally hot, and she's completely popular. It's everything she's ever wanted. 

But beneath all the fun -- the nonstop parties, the high-tech luxury, the total freedom -- is a nagging sense that something's wrong. Something important. Then a message from Tally's ugly past arrives. Reading it, Tally remembers what's wrong with pretty life, and the fun stops cold. 

Now she has to choose between fighting to forget what she knows and fighting for her life -- because the authorities don't intend to let anyone with this information survive.

I'm gonna be blunt about it. I didn't enjoy this book for, oh, about half I was reading it.


I really enjoyed the first book, Uglies (review here btw), so I couldn't wait to read this book. But boy, was I wrong. Pretties was weird. Like, they kept on repeating words, which generally gave me a headache. Bogus, Bubbly and Pretty-Making? Yeah, seeing those words repeated often could give ANYONE a headache.


There was nothing wrong with the story line though. The plot was GREAT! except...slightly confusing. I didn't like the new guy though. What was wrong with the original one?! and it was weird how they had to do all that stuff just to be "bubbly". I mean, a girl can only handle so much!
It was interesting to see the new concepts added to this book about the futuristic world, like the floating ice rink in the SKY! I was like, wouldn't it be so awesome if we had that? sure, it would be dangerous, but amazingly fun. I really enjoyed the part where Tally goes to that other tribe thing. It was quite cool, and the least confusing part about the book.


It was kinda weird with the original guy's mom. Ouch. I wouldn't like it if anyone's mom was that hostile to me. And the Original Guy (whose name I still forget to recall)? he seemed more... meaner to Tally. Well, maybe she deserved it. She did turn up with the New Guy.


The book is worth your time though. Trust Me. I still want to finish the series... but I don't know what the other books are like. Maybe, I'll take a little break from the series and continue later. CHOW.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Everybody gets to be supermodel gorgeous. What could be wrong with that?

Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license -- for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.

But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world -- and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.

Uglies was a very different perspective of our world in the future. There have been several variations as like in The Girl Who Owned the City by O.T. Nelson, all the adults were killed off by a disease and only kids survived. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, children from ages 12 to 18 had to participate in deadly games where only one survives. But this one by far was very different.

Everyone is either "Ugly" or "Pretty".

There's a separation between the two and once an 'Ugly' turns 16, they turn into a 'Pretty'. Until, Tally finds out about another group of people, who've escaped from the Pretty world. This is kinda similar as Katniss discovers about District 13 in Catching Fire.

Uglies was a different and fantastic different experience about the Post-Apocalyptic world. Can't wait to read "Pretties"!
