Teaser Tuesdays - Week 9

"Teaser Tuesdays" is a weekly meme hosted by Should Be Reading. Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser:

"Mhmm-hmm." I hop to the fridge for ice–which I wrap in a dishtowel and tie around my ankle–and the jug of ice tea. "If you need to use the bathroom...this might sound weird, but it's a composting toilet, so the toilet paper goes into–"
"No no, I'm good." Jacinda waves her hands. "I guess I just didn't expect you would have a bathroom in this kind of place."

Here's My Teaser:

Had she been waiting for me? I realized that I didn't even know if there was a curfew around her, but I couldn't be late if when there were still other kids outside.
She closed Slaughterhouse Five - in my opinion, one of the most painful books on any high school reading list, but for some reason all the agency people seemed to get into it - and greeted me with a smile.

Here's my teaser:

It's odd that Cecilia doesn't mind going outside looking the way she does, but she's suddenly paranoid about neighbors with superhuman hearing. The only person out besides us is somebody's abuelita rolling her trash can back up the driveway across the street, and I'm pretty sure she can't hear us over the racket the wheels make over the asphalt.

They both looked at me like I was some kind of narc.
“She will. Eventually. Meanwhile, whatever gets you through math class, right Warrior Princess?”
“Right! I’m gonna get this done ’cause then I can play with my Barbies. You wanna stay and play
Barbies when I get done?”
“Um…I’ll stay for a while, but I’ll probably have to go before Barbie time. Sorry.”

My Teaser:

Once I sat down, I read over my list of classes, seperated into neat blocks – Intro to Calculus, Global Cultures and Practices, Drawing: Life and Form – twice, figuring that would give people adequate time to stare at me before moving onto something else. Sure enough, by the time I lifted my head a couple of minutes later to turn my attention to my teacher, a cursory check revealed everyone else was pretty much doing the same.

He closed the door. "What? What? What's the story?"
His hazel eyes were all wide. He's so cute when he's gullible.
"I haven't talked to him yet," I said. The I pulled away from the curb.

My Teasers:

"You stole mortals from our world," I say, horrified.
Philon sips from the chalice. "The mortals had a choice. They chose to come with us."
"You enchanted them!"
A smirk pulls at the corners of Philon's thin lips. "They chose to be enchanted."
