Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen

Halley has always followed in the wake of her best friend, Scarlett. But when Scarlett learns that her boyfriend has been killed in a motorcycle accident, and that she's carrying his baby, she's devastated. For the first time ever, Scarlett really needs Halley. Their friendship may bend under the weight, but it'll never break--because a true friendship is a promise you keep forever.

I really, really, really, REALLY loved this book. Sarah Dessen is AMAZING. I don't know why I didn't read her books before this year. I must have been out of my mind, 'cause seriously, this, in my opinion is the BEST ONE I've read so far. And I love all the other ones I've read equally.

This book was just so sweet, so sincere...yet so realistic and painful. As this book goes through things such as Teen Pregnancy, boyfriend troubles and pressure, Dealing with a death of a friend, hearing the words "I Love You" and what it really means, picking out the right guy etc., it's all very close to real life. Girls (and Guys) all have to face these issues in real life. It's so amazing how Sarah Dessen can make this seem so good and so real...which is really difficult, trust me. I know. A lot of books these days don't really open up to issues such as these. Well, actually a lot of books do, but not as well as Sarah Dessen tells it. It's just so amazing.

I really did like Macon at first. He was funny and charming and nice and everything, and this is the part where all us girls out there are like, "He's the guy! The perfect one! the one she's gonna fall in love with!" that we also fall in love ourselves and hope things go well romantically for them. *SPOILER ALERT* but then as we go further into the book we can see that things aren't as what they seem to be. Things can change, and in this case, for the worst. I'm glad at the end, he so deserved it.

I really love this book, especially since I found out that Scarlett, a minor character in This Lullaby, was in it! I was like, OMG! but it's kinda sad, 'cause then you know what's gonna happen. *SPOILER ALERT* she does end up having the baby! like she says in This Lullaby...so it was kinda ruined for me. But that's okay, cause I kinda also forgot about that...until later in the book. But whatever! Still an amazing book full of surprises and sharp turns.

I liked Halley's character as she's quiet, not stern or headstrong or whatever, and even though she's rebelling against what her parents tell her to do, she still makes it through in the end, makes everything right. She's ALWAYS there for Scarlett, and that's what I admire about her. Amazing friendship! :D

I definitely want to read more Sarah Dessen books...right now, I'm about to start reading Lock & Key! Can't wait!

  1. I am SO happy to see a review for this book. I read this book about 11-12 years ago when it first came out and I fell in love with it. I read it a bunch of times and had my best friend read it too. I was convinced we were Halley and Scarlett. Hardly anyone I know has read this book, so I'm thrilled that you read it and loved it. My other favourite Sarah Dessen book is Along for the Ride. All her books are amazing but those are my 2 favourites. :-)
